*sigh* Everything about putting this princess group together is such a big PAIN!
I went to go pick up the Snow White and Belle wigs today. They were being done at a local place that styled my first Ariel wig and Snow last year. I was really happy with how they turned out last year, so I figured they would be best for doing the new Belle wig. Snow just needed to be washed and styled again.
Well, the Snow wig is ok. I might need to have the bangs fixed a little, but I won't know for sure until Heather tries it on. But Belle...ugh. It wasn't horrible, but the bun and bangs definitely need work! I printed out pages and pages of reference for the bangs, but they didn't do them right. So I had to bring in the old Belle wig for them to see how the bangs were done. The thing that really worries me is that it's girls doing the wig, girls my age, not the owner of the salon. I really want the owner to do it, but the girls are super nice and I don't want to insult them. If it's not fixed correctly the second time I'll ask for the owner to style it. But why does it have to be SO difficult?? Why can't it be right the first time?
The same thing happened with Tinkerbell. This was done at a different location. I printed tons of reference pics, gave it to the stylist, and several days later drove all the way to Anaheim just to pick up the wig. The wig itself was styled nicely, but the bun was HORRIBLE. It was very flat and spread out over almost the entire circumference of the head. WHAT. So I had to tell her to re-do the bun, and had to drive back to Anaheim again to pick it up a second time. The bun is okay now, but I'm still not 100% satisfied with it. Instead of the hair being styled vertically, like it's been swept up in a bun, it's going horizontal. Not a HUGE deal, but still! How hard is it to make a bun?
I also was supposed to meet with a stylist this morning for Jasmine's wig. Drove all the way to Anaheim to meet her. I waited about 45 minutes for her to show up, and she never came. She called me a little later, apologizing profusely because her schedule got changed and she didn't have my number to contact me, so everything is ok now. But it was still frustrating! :(
My Ariel wig also really needs to be re-styled. The bangs are much flatter than when I first got it. The only problem is that because it's a special wig, it's REALLY expensive to re-style it. I was hoping that it would be passable for Anime Expo, and then I could have it nicely styled before SDCC, but it looks really bad right now because my dad THREW A PACKAGE ON TOP OF THE WIG WHEN IT WAS IN ITS BOX. (The box didn't have a lid because it presses down on the bangs.) I'm so f'ing pissed off about that.
AAAARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

( Giselle's sleeve progress ) Yesterday I did a bunch of stems, and today I did the pink flowers and their stems. Some more leaves and that little blue flower-thingy have been added recently too. Still lots to do...ugh, I seriously think I'm insane for doing this. D:

| Tinkerbell Wings |
[12 May 2009|12:39pm] |
Anyone need some custom Tink wings made? I'm ordering a pair from this site:
http://www.fancyfairy.com/ffcolorchart.html
and it's cheaper if I buy a second pair. Let me know!
Edit: It wouldn't even have to be Tinkerbell specifically; it could be any of the Neverland fairies.

So today was the SoCal Cosplay Spring Gathering and I went for the first time with Brianna. I wore my Ariel blue "Kiss the Girl" dress and she went as Alice. Overall, it was a blast. I got to hang out with Brianna, Cathy, and Diana, three amazing girls, and met Vanessa and JoEllen, two incredible cosplayers. JoEllen dressed up as Aurora (I always thought she'd be a great Aurora!) and Vanessa did a really lovely version of Ariel as a mermaid. The fabric for her fin was so beautiful! And her shells looked really amazing. I also got to see Britney, who was dressed as an adorable Mickey, and Kat and Jenn's AMAZING Disney fairy costumes. OMG, they were so great! The wigs, the fabrics...gah, they just need to go work in the park right now! I also got to meet Traci Hines, a lovely Disney fan and cosplayer. She wore a Snow White costume and looked really great! Her friend Laura, who makes a lot of Disney costumes, came dressed as Pocahontas.( Aside from all the fun though, there was a bit of a problem with my wig... )
Today was really good for trial-and-error purposes though. I learned a lot and have a few ideas I'm going to try next time that will hopefully make the wig look better. All in all it was a lot of fun! Pics will be posted when I get them from Brianna! :D

Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl |

It's been awhile since I've updated, but I decided to try to get back into this. And it'll be good to keep track of my cosplay progress.
After seeing Enchanted, I fell in love with Giselle's curtain dress (well, all of her outfits, but I'm making the curtain dress first). And since I couldn't find any fabric remotely close enough to the movie version, and since I'm becoming increasingly more anal-retentive about my costuming, I decided to embroider the fabric myself.
...I must be insane. D:
It took me about a week of analyzing photos and hard work to figure out the actual embroidery pattern on her outfit. Then I had to figure out a way to transfer that pattern onto the fabric. Oh gods that took weeks and weeks before I came up with a solution. It's still very difficult to transfer the pattern, however. And embroidering is tougher than I anticipated. Not only does it take forever, but it's very hard to make everything seem uniform. It's one thing to embroider a leaf; it's another thing to embroider six leaves all near each other and have them look exactly the same. My rule of thumb is that if something doesn't look 100% perfect, but it's passable, I'll leave it alone. If it looks bad to me after a month or so I'll fix it. Anyway, here's my progress so far. ( Pictures under here! )
So far I'm very excited with how it's turning out! Tomorrow I have to re-embroider 5 leaves on a different finished piece, because I discovered a stitch that looks better. And after that I'll start on the sleeves!

I really like how the commercial turned out. It's very funny! XD I am in the commercial, but because the file is so small it's hard to see me. I'm sitting on the floor under 3PO's right elbow. ^^
